Michiel Mensingh (Amsterdam, 1975) studied composition with Hans Timmermans and Barbara Woof at the HKU Utrecht School of the Arts, faculty of Art, Media & Technology in Hilversum. During his study he followed a traineeship with composer Guus Janssen. He received his Masters of Arts degree in September 2001.

In June 2001 Mensingh won the Matthijs Vermeulen Incentive Price for his drum 'n' bass based composition 'Wicked', written for recorder quartet QNG 138, a price from the 'Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst'.

Mensingh has composed for various ensembles and musicians with or without electronics.

Besides his career as a composer of contemporary classical music, Mensingh also composes, produces and arranges pop music, film music, music for television-commercials, radio-commercials and jingles. In conclusion he has also written some singles. One of them, 'Alone in the Summer', an instrumental synthesizer number, even made it to the pop charts in 1993.

Right now Mensingh is writing music for a new dance production by choreographers Pieter de Ruiter and Eva Villanueva for the orchestra 'De Ereprijs', commissioned by the 'Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst'.

For the season of 2004-2005 the following commissions are planned:

Recorder Quartet QNG 138 asked Mensingh to make a new composition for various performances in the beginning of season 2004-2005 and Recorder Quartet Brisk asked Mensingh to compose a piece which focuses on the special combination of recorder quartet and piano on account of their program around the composition 'Zangbodem' by Guus Janssen, to perform in co-operation with the pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama during season 2004-2005

Portrait (1999, Michiel Mensingh/ Anke Brouwer), music for a dance-film, presented on the faculty KMT, Hilversum.

Faites Vos Jeux (1999/ 2000), music for hobo, clarinet and piano, composed during an apprenticeship with Guus Janssen, premiere in the IJsbreker, Amsterdam.

Comment ce fait le fromage (2000) music for big ensemble written as a score for a featureflm, performed during the 'Nederlands Filmfestival 2000', premiere in the 'Filmtheater 't Hoogt' Utrecht'.

Puls-Fictie (2000), music for two amplified disc-keyboards (automatic pianos), premiere in the IJsbreker, Amsterdam.

BlindDate (2001), composition for two amplified disc-keyboards and elekronics for a danceperformance in co-oparation with two choreographers, premiere at the 'Rotterdams Conservatorium'.

Wicked (2001), music for the recorderquartet QNG 138, premiere in the IJsbreker, Amsterdam. Tour through the Netherlands, Germany and Austria.

Sax Machine(2002), music for amplified bariton-sax and two amplified diskc-keyboards, written for Henk van Twillert.

Dude, Where's the One? (2002) ,music for the 'Stravinsky Ensemble', assinged by the 'Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst', premiere in theatre 'Oosterpoort', Groningen. Special performances in the 'Rode Hoed' in Amsterdam (IJsbreker on tour) and in the 'Concertzaal', Tilburg.
